50-minute Build Lab
Our goal is not to learn more Canvas. It is to build something you will actually use.
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
- Select a New Quizzes question type for a stated evidence task.
- Configure required setup fields for Hot Spot, Ordering, Categorization, Stimulus, and Multiple Choice.
- Build or revise one complete question with prompt, directions, answer or scoring setup, points, and feedback.
- Preview and verify the student-facing question using the workshop checklist.

Question-Type Decision Guide
Start with the evidence
| Evidence students should provide | Likely format | Verify |
|---|---|---|
| Locate or identify something visual | Hot Spot | Target size, image purpose, accessibility |
| Arrange a defensible process or sequence | Ordering | One valid order, concise steps, drag-and-drop preview |
| Sort examples into clear groups | Categorization | Non-overlapping categories and one defensible placement |
| Interpret a shared passage, chart, image, case, or data set | Stimulus | Every connected question requires the shared context |
| Select the best answer from plausible choices | Multiple Choice | Selection is the intended evidence, not merely the easiest setup |
